Opening Day 2021

Rowner Bowling club held their official Opening Day yesterday 24th July. Normally we would all get together at the start of the season in April but due to the pandemic, like may other things, the opening was delayed. County Councillor Stephen Philpott very kindly agreed to bowl the symbolic first wood.

The afternoon got underway with a traditional spider which was won by Jim Lister, we then moved on to the DJC Trophy match which was a spoon drive with three rounds of 3 wood triples of six ends making up the play. There were two awards, the wooden spoon went to Pete Wilkinson and the DJC Trophy was won by new member Nick De Neuville.  The afternoon was sponsored by DJC Catering and the prizes were awarded by Club President Debbie Chamberlain and Competition Secretary Bryan Webb.  Again probably due to the pandemic, numbers attending were down on previous years but the weather came good and everyone who did come along had an enjoyable afternoon.
